While I was in Japan I saw lots of promo going on for the Spring ‘08 anime Soul Eater. I wasn’t able to find an english fansub, but decided to check out a raw. Verdict - the character designs are fun and simple and seem intended for a younger audience, but don’t cross that fine line into crude/childish design. The animation is well rendered - the action scenes looks really tasty.  This series looks to have a lot of flair and funkiness - can’t wait for the english subs to be put out there.  The true test will be the story and how it shapes up after a few episodes.

Usually Hatsune Miku from the Vocaloid franchise is dressed up in her teal/aqua techy outfit, leek in hand ready to make some vocoded songs with you. Which is why I found this ultra-spooky drawing of her to appealing. It’s totally different than how you usually see her, and it’s pretty rad!

If the Melancholy of Suzumiya Haruhi was set in the old West, Haruhi would probably be the mistress of a bordello that connects a gang of rebel cowboys, Yuki would be the quiet stunner that does sneaks around and finds out the dirt on people, and Mikuru - well Mikuru would probably work for Haruhi in the bordello >.< But this pic puts the Haruhi girls in more of the standard Western get-up, with hats n guns n spurs - which is also an excellent interpretation of Haruhi Western Django.

Not sure of the source of this art, but I can’t argue with a bunch of nice girls hanging out on a sweet looking mecha/plane thing. The 3d rendering is well-executed and fits well with the 2d girls.

From the artbook “Sweet Body”, this girl by Happou Bijin might look like she’s just having fun tromping around in puddles on a rainy day, but she’s really trying to stomp on that poor frog so that she can milk it’s poison and use it for her deadly blow-darts. Ok, maybe not.

Happou Bijin is an artist I recently stumbled across, who has a large portfolio of great images, ranging from cute, to techy, to eroge. He (?) has a nice artbook with lots of nice work called Sweet Body, though I’m not enitrely sure if this image is from that. This girl is obviously a child of the future and Sony is still around making awesome portable gaming systems like PSP3001 and selling hot outfits for girls to wear while playing.

I was having some issues with Nextgen Gallery, which is the gallery plugin I use for Wordpress.  It wasn’t letting me add any images, which is why I haven’t posted anything lately.  After upgrading WP to 2.5 and getting the latest plugin, all is well, and loads of fun, cute, orz images will be heading your way shortly! The girlies from Lucky Star always seem to be having the most fun!  Perhaps there are other anime in which the main cast are more playful, but Konachan, Kagami, Tsukasa and Miyuki are always up to joyful shenanigans! But fun or no, they probably have a 90min limit to eat those yummy treats!

I’m sad to be back from Japan!  It was an amazing vacation, and we are already planning to visit again!  But for now, it’s back to work, and back to posting wonderful images for the readers of moggling.com.  I’ll be doing a write-up of my trip to Tokyo, Hakone and Kyoto to share the experience.  Expect to see some fresh posts fairly soon - I have a lot of work (blah!) and blogs (yay!) to catch up on first.  ^.^
