Haruhi Rock Band!
I love this cover image from the Suzumiya Haruhi no Gekisou album. The Extravaganza of Suzumiya Haruhi was a Lucky Star concert event that happened in 2007. Check out Random Curiosity’s review. I’d love to see a figure made with Yuki wearing that outfit.

Samurai Champloo - Jin and Mugen
Mugen and Jin silhouetes from Champloo. By Shinichiro Watanabe (creator of Cowboy Bebop), Champloo consists of a similar cast make-up as the space-faring bounty hunters. Two mismatched and ornery swordsmen (Jin, Mugen) unwillingly help a young girl (Fuu) on her mission to find the samurai who smells of sunflowers. It’s a fun story, set in old Japan, but framed with hip-hop style tunes and funky visual treatment. From Wiki: “The word, champloo, comes from the Okinawan word “chanpurū” (as in gōyā chanpurū, the Okinawan stir-fry dish containing bitter melon).[2] Chanpurū, alone, simply means “to mix” or “to hash.” Therefore, the title, Samurai Champloo, may be translated to “Samurai Remix” or “Samurai Mashup.”"

FLCL - Haruko Haruhara
I’m going to see The Pillows tomorrow night and I am very excited. I’ve seen them live before and they were amazing! Don’t know who The Pillows are? They are probably best known for doing the music for FLCL (pronounce Furi Kuri or Fooly Cooly). Image is of Haruko, the scooter riding, guitar wielding, outfit changing alien that intrudes on Naota’s mundane life. Check out the show credits, featuring the song Ride on Shooting Star and a cute scooter with a mind of its own. P!

Cowboy Bebop - Spike Spiegel
Cowboy Bebop follows a ragtag group of space-faring bounty hunters, and their adventures tracking down criminals. This must-see classic series has got it all - super fun characters, awesome music by Yoko Kanno, great art, superb action scenes, excellent story. This is one of the few shows where I actually enjoy the English dub. If you’re an anime fan and haven’t seen it, check out the show opener and and rent this immediately. Semi-related: the British car show Top Gear totally copies the Bebop opening titles.

Caramel - Caramelldansen
Stumbled across a bunch of versions of this insanely silly Carameldansen video - then realized I had this Lucky Star image based on it. For some reason I wasn’t able to find a video of Konata and Kagami doin the ‘jig’, but there are plenty to check out. Semi-related: Lucky Star final episode dance sequence.

Moe Mondays - Tsukasa Hiiragi
Tsukasa is the younger twin sister from Lucky Star with the short hair. She’s a bit clumsy, always asking her sister for help on her homework, and getting pwned at sports - but that’s what gives her that moe factor that you can’t help but love. She’s kinda similar in spacecaseness to ‘Osaka‘ from Azumanga Daioh. Check out Tsukasa trying to use her new cellphone and her character album.

FLCL - Canti in Action
FLCL (pronounce Furikuri) is an excellent anime from Gainax (who brought you Neon Genesis Evangelion, Gurren Lagann etc etc) With only 6 episodes, it’s a short but intense series full of fun action sequences, interesting characters, excellent music from the Pillows, and yes, Giant Robots. Canti is a robot that emerges from Naota’s forehead, after he is hit in the noggin with a guitar by a scooter-riding alien girl. Kept company by his sullen pseudo-girlfiend Samejima Mamimi, they are drawn into an adventure against the evil forces that occupy the monolithic iron-shaped building - Medical Mechanica. Check out this clip, and download the soundtrack.
