Going to Tokyo! Girl at Tokyo Big Sight
I’m heading to Japan this weekend! My wife and I will be checking out the Tokyo Anime Fair at Tokyo Big Sight. I’m really hoping we’ll run across some anime girls and a slew of penguins underneath the iconic inverted pyramids. While we’re away for 2 weeks I probably won’t be posting - or very infrequently. Illustration by Misato Mitsumi.

NGE - Rei and Asuka by Okama
A little while ago Raezr helped me identify an image by Okama (artist site) Since then I’ve been learning more about this artist - and discovering all the things by him I’ve enjoyed without even realizing he was involved. His renditions of Rei and Asuka are just too cute. I’ve put up a selection of his original works to enjoy below.
- Bought a Himawari figure
- Thought Getsumen Usagi Heiki Mina looked super fun
- Do want super-cute Rei & Asuka figs
Unhappy Not-Quite-Yet Easter! Chocho Police
It’s Easter time, and frankly, as much as I like cutesy stuff, I’m a bit tired of seeing bunnies and chicks everywhere. In celebration of it not actually being Easter quite yet, here is another piece by Chocho Police of one of their signature moody-girls tearing the ears off a plush bunny. Grrrr! (Don’t worry, cute unharmed bunny pics tomorrow!)

Orda - Two Girls with Headphones
Every time I know the URL for an artist, but the page is all in Japanese, I want to learn how to read it! The same is true for orda’s page, the artist for this image. It seems that orda pushes his art into a different market - creating drawings for club events such as Mega Peer at Club Asia in Tokyo. Great to see the entrepreneurship of artists!

Okama - Cooked in a Pot
Odd image of a girl being cooked ina pot with some yellow fruit things. The steamy vibe of the cook pot and the room are quite nice, and the green and earthy tones used for the composition are lovely. Stands out amongst all the usual super-saturated / pastel stuff out there. Wish I knew the artist so I could find more… Update - artist is Okama, who has a lot of really cute drawings in a similar style.

bf’s ok farm, Scooter Girl with Neko Neko
Another cute drawing from bfs ok farm. The girl’s expression seems to be of surprise that the cat is gonna be joining her for the ride - goggles and all! Lovely pastel tones, cute chunky scooter & helmet , nice touches such as the emblem on her arm.

Friday Fanservice / Kantoku - Mahou Shoujo Lyrical Nanoha, Yagami Hayate
Panty shot! By Kantoku of the “Afterschool of the 5th Year” doujin circle. I’m not too familiar with Mahou Shoujo Lyrical Nanoha, but from what I’ve seen / read, I don’t think I’d really be into it. Not quite my style of magical girls >.>

Moe Mondays - Fantasy Earth Zero
Fantasy Earth Zero is an MMORPG. Not sure of the source of this loli image, but it continues the archery theme of the previous Kureha post. +14 to agility?

Naox - Akagaeru
Another one for the train enthusiasts - and perhaps those who like kitty cats. This image is how I might imagine rural Japan to look like - abandoned technology, stray cats, girls in seifuku. Semi-related: This reminds me of the rural, abandoned spaces visualized in the beautiful movie The Place Promised in our Early Years, by Makoto Shinaki - who also single-handedly created Voices of a Distant Star.
