Mahō Tsukai ni Taisetsu na Koto: Natsu no Sora

Mahō Tsukai ni Taisetsu na Koto: Natsu no Sora is a tale of a sweet girl from the countryside who has to go to Tokyo to train as a mage. The story moves along at a bit of a slow pace, but it serves to create a real depth of character, and a nice understanding of a world where mages train at an academy and perform magic for clients at their request. The characters are all very real and somewhat flawed as we all are. The background artwork for this show is almost photo-realistic and might take a bit of getting used to, but I really like it (mainly because it reminds me of my trip to Japan!)

On the subject of that takes-getting-used-to artwork. I agree, it took me a bit, but in the end I think it was a brilliant choice on their part. It makes me think of Tintin - iconic characters in realistic settings are strangely compelling. Have read lots of comments elsewhere suggesting it was done to ’save money and effort’. Feh - generic watercolour backgrounds a la Da Capo are far faster & probably cheaper. Maho Tsukai’s settings were chosen & reworked with great care - it shows.
And the story. I cried. Anyone else?
