Kannazuki no Miko is a yuri-themed manga turned anime around the plot that two girls, Himeko and Chikane (shown) are reincarnations of the solar and lunar miko and must protect the world from Orochi (Eight headed serpent) from Japanese mythology.  But who are about the protecting the world deal - we just want the girl-on-girl yuri action!  I love the intensity and implied action from this close-desu shot. What’s better than a meido anime girl?  Three maid girls in skimpy outfits with a big green dinosaur!  I haven’t seen “He is my Master” - but with a title like that I can only imagine it is full of blatant fan service. It follows the typical harem plot where a filthy rich little brat ends up with 3 hawt maids for him to wax his dolphin to. Interested? Read more.

This image stands out from the crowd by looking less clean and illustrative, and being more painterly and artsy. I love the outfit the girl is wearing, with cute accessories and glasses. She doesn’t seem to fit in the typical ‘meganeko’ mold, but that’d not a bad thing since she’s a real cutey. Great clouds and cigarette smoke, providing a deep atmosphere and mood. Unfortunately I can’t decipher the artist’s signature.

I’ll be the first to admit I’m a sucker for skittles-bright characters that aren’t afraid to let their smiles (and pointy tooth) show. Nurse Witch Kogumi seems to be a show that doesn’t take itself too seriously. The main character (shown, left) is a hired cosplayer who can transform into a nurse-witch magical girl - strangely this nurse-witch usually has bunny ears. Her friend Koyori (right) is Kogumi’s coworker, who transforms into her evil alter-ego self - Magical Maid Koyori - at which point they are enemies. Conveniently, this transformation occurs when she passes out, and she doesn’t recall anything once she reverts. Nurse Witch Kogumi is a spoof of SoulTaker series, and is short at 5 episodes. 

Moggling just got approved on Animenano! (Thanks Hung!)  In celebration of being part of this lively and tight-knit anime blogging community, I thought I’d post the source image for the icon I always use.  It features Simon and Yoko from Gurren Lagann, in kind of a modern musical theme. They are great updated renditions of the characters with lots of nice little details that make them totally adorable. Some related Gurren Lagann posts below. 

Every time I know the URL for an artist, but the page is all in Japanese, I want to learn how to read it! The same is true for orda’s page, the artist for this image. It seems that orda pushes his art into a different market - creating drawings for club events such as Mega Peer at Club Asia in Tokyo. Great to see the entrepreneurship of artists! 

Gun in one hand, grenade in the other,  Chidori is ready to kick some butt, despite being dressed as if to go to the beach for the obligatory ‘beach episode’. FMP is a fun show with lots of action, mecha, and tongue-in-cheek humor. The series follows a team of mercenaries called Mithril, who have been assigned to protect Chidori. You guessed it - she is a simple high school student, and one of the Mithril team must infiltrate her school to keep her safe. Wiki entry.

I haven’t seen Rozen Maiden, but it generally seems to center around little goth-loli style ‘dolls.’  Shown is Suiseiseki (aka Jade Stern) - a ‘gardener’ type doll with two different eye colors (Heterochromia is the scientific name if you’re interested) These characters are usually shown as cute and frilly, but I liked this image because it’s more manic and crazy and uses the heterochromia to emphasize that unsettled feeling.  and it’s super up-close-desu!

There’s something really moody about this image. The girl looks pretty unhappy, and the colors are muted and subdued. The design is the robot parts is very nice, in an almost steampunk style, with lots of detail. The scenery matches the character well. Artist unknown. 

Odd image of a girl being cooked ina  pot with some yellow fruit things. The steamy vibe of the cook pot and the room are quite nice, and the green and earthy tones used for the composition are lovely. Stands out amongst all the usual super-saturated / pastel stuff out there. Wish I knew the artist so I could find more…  Update - artist is Okama, who has a lot of really cute drawings in a similar style.
