Macross - Mechas in the Air
Mechas duking it out is always fun. Sometimes a pilot’s just gotta run for it - and that’s what it looks like here, 2 fighter mechas and one bomber/cargo(?) trying to avoid the mega-missile-attack of an ominous attacker. Thanks to paradigmprime for the ID and Macross insights

Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei - Tsunetsuki Matoi
Matoi appears early on in the show as the obsessive stalker who turns her desires toward the teacher Nozomu after he offers to kill himself with her. Oh Nozomu! This image is so cute, yet if you know her character, it has a certain level of disturbed-ness because you know that behind that smile are thoughts of Nozomu and nothing else. <3 this show - must finish it!

Minamike - Mako-chan, Chiaki & Touma
As I’ve mentioned before, I’m not a huge fan of the Minami-ke character designs, but sometimes I come across art of them that is (more) cute and (less) cleft-lip. I’m a bit unsure who is the on the left, since Kana seems to usually have long brown hair. Anyone can who has watched the show who can ID, would be greatly appreciated! Thanks to TheBigN for helping ID the characters!

Range Murata - Sci-fi Girl with Gun
Range Murata is the character designer for Last Exile, the excellent steampunk-y series from 2003. It is full of typical Range Murata character designs, from the hair-bundled loli Alvis Hamilton to the hardened military pilot Tatiana Wisia. This image looks a whole lot like Tatiana if she was in a futuristic sci-fi series instead of a steampunk-era show. She’s got the sullen look, the loli figure, the confident pose, the stylized costume, and of course the boyish haircut. Unmistakable as a Murata piece.

Haruhi Girls in Yukata
Haruhi, Yuki and Mikuru are always dressed up in some sort of outlandish costumes to satisfy Haruhi’s maniacal whims. Here we see them in less crazy, and more beautiful outfits - yukata. Though it still looks like Haruhi has some scheme in the works, as Yuki has Mikuru pinned down and is about to apply an inked brush to her face! A yukata is a less formal type of kimono worn for festivals (often in sumer) and is often made of cotton - while the traditional kimono is usually made of silk and used for formal occasions. It is traditional that the younger a person is, the more bright and bold the patterns they should wear.

GA Graphic - Heli Bike - Flying Dogs!
GAGraphic puts out some really quality art - though I’ll admit I don’t know too much about them - are they a doujin circle, publisher, game company? I found this site, but I don’t read Japanese! Regardless, this pic has flying dogs, a gun, a heli-bicycle and a catgirl - not to mention all the wonderful details sprinkled throughout.

Going to Tokyo! Girl at Tokyo Big Sight
I’m heading to Japan this weekend! My wife and I will be checking out the Tokyo Anime Fair at Tokyo Big Sight. I’m really hoping we’ll run across some anime girls and a slew of penguins underneath the iconic inverted pyramids. While we’re away for 2 weeks I probably won’t be posting - or very infrequently. Illustration by Misato Mitsumi.

Totoro - Makkuro Kurosuke
Totoro is a classic anime with so many little cute things in it. One such element are the black soot / dust bunnies - or Makkuro Kurosuke. They dance around the old house and hide in the dark corners and cracks, scaring the girls when they’re enjoying their carefree day.

Golden Warrior
This plate and mail wearing warrior looks like she could take on big monsters - though I think there are just a few small gaps in her armor! But hey, a girl’s gotta sacrifice function over form, right?

Bloody Eyed, Scythe Wielding Maniac
I wouldn’t want to meet this bad girl on a dark night - she’d probably lop off your head and feed it to a demonic dog. Though when she’s at home with the girls, eating pocky and reading manga, the scythe doubles as a bottle opener for yummy carbonated drinks! >.<
