Range Murata is the character designer for
Last Exile, the excellent steampunk-y series from 2003. It is full of typical Range Murata character designs, from the hair-bundled loli Alvis Hamilton to the hardened military pilot Tatiana Wisia. This image looks a whole lot like Tatiana if she was in a futuristic sci-fi series instead of a steampunk-era show. She’s got the sullen look, the loli figure, the confident pose, the stylized costume, and of course the boyish haircut. Unmistakable as a Murata piece.
I love Range Murata’s work, and snatch up any of his stuff that gets put out there.
He is a master at the “future retro” look.
